Buchanan is no longer big Bairn

Monday, 4th Aug 2014

Gregor Buchanan stated in Black and White the match day programme that six goals were his target for the season but after scoring in his debut in competition for Dunfermline, if that success rate continues, he might need to revisit that figure.

Gregor was delighted with the start:-

"One game, one goal; it was a decent performance from us considering it was our first game. It was a strange week last week after the freak moment (postponed the game). It will come, there was a wee bit of sloppiness but on the whole it was a good result and to score five goals is a good start to the season."

Gregor has gone full time in football since arriving from Airdrie but that just fulfils his ambitions:-

"When I got to the age of 23/24 my main aim did change, when I got the option there was no doubt I was going to mess about. I was right in and signed right away because that is what I wanted to do. I am delighted to be here and wouldn't change it.

"Training every day can only make my game better. Obviously the coaching staff had seen that and its just about going to try and progress the best I can. There is a fantastic squad in there. Everyone knows our aim is promotion this year. That's the way it should be. It is a real target for us that we make sure of promotion at the end of the season."

Next up is the Fife Derby against Raith Rovers in the Petrofac Training Cup and the man from Falkirk hopes to get through that given the team he has watched over the years are the winners next opponents.

"I have seen the next round and I have been getting a bit of stick for my move, hopefully we will win through. It is a great one to go into and if we can win that then there is a fantastic tie at the other end."

Pushed on how big a Falkirk fan the Dunfermline centre half was, he replied " no comment" but he did explain himself:-

"It is my local club and you go along to games at times, I am not going to deny that I was there! I am a Dunfermline fan now and a Dunfermline player. I think it showed when I scored the goal today I was absolutely delighted."

And so what of his friends and family who have followed his fortunes from Armadale and Bathgate Thistle and to Airdrie, would they be converted?

"My friends are brilliant supporters of me. It took a wee bit of time but they will be here supporting the Pars.

"Our main aim is Tuesday, it is a massive game. Raith Rovers are the holders of the cup and they are not going to be walk overs. It is a good game to play in and now that you know the draw for the next round it is even more appealing. It is one we will definitely be aiming to win."
