Bring on next season

Sunday, 3rd May 2015

David Hopkirk says "Next year I will be trying to add goals to my game."

"It has been a disappointing season and doesn't help when we are conceding stupid goals all the time. When we go into the lead we don't know how to keep the lead."

The 22 year old who joined from Annan Athletic three months ago put his hand up and took some of the blame for Airdrieonians equaliser in the final minute of the first half:-

"I lost the runner because I was playing in central midfield. I don't know what it is because we came out for the second half, didn't start right and lost a goal. We wanted to go out and win for the gaffer but it has just not happened again."

Hopkirk played in central midfield when he was at Hamilton in SPL and enjoys the greater involvement that role brings with it. Even from there however he did have a couple of shots at goal and the first one midway into the first half was only kept out with a fantastic save by Airdrieonians keeper,

"I thought that I had scored it but it was a good save from the keeper. Next year I will be trying to add goals to my game. That little bit more fitness is needed at this level because it is faster. It was alright in League Two but in the last ten minutes I am not there fitness wise.

"When I arrived I found that in training all the boys were flying. You wouldn't think that we could have had this kind of season. The training is amazing but when you go into a Saturday all that stops.

"In comparison to other clubs I have been, it is a lot faster, sharper and more technical. Honestly everyone is up and down the park in the games and it is good training as well.

"We can only look forward to next season and a fresh start. We know how bad that it has been and we need to go away in the summer and work hard so that we come back in fit and ready to go again.

"Obviously I have returned to full time football here and I think that next season I will be flying. I want to win stuff and that's why I came here."
