Andy Kirk Post Morton

Two goal hero:- "The most important thing is to win. Last year we might have lost that game or drawn it, the pleasing thing for us that we didn't play our best today but we ground out a result.

Man of the Match Andy Kirk was delighted with the result against Morton.  He described his two goals that separated the teams:-

"When the ball came across it got deflected off their player and brought it down to me.  I got a good connection on it and it went in.  My second one was just a good free kick from Willie (Gibson), I got myself in a good area and luckily enough the ball arrived.

"The most important thing is to win.  Last year we might have lost that game or drawn it, the pleasing thing for us that we didn't play our best today but we ground out a result.

The way the First Division threatens to be, it probably means that these kind of wins are going to be crucial if the season is going to be a success.

"We tend to find at home that a lot of teams come and try and stop us playing. Although I thought Morton were the better side for most part of the game today. We improved on that part from last year and we have got to try and grind out results as we did today."

The 31 year old Irishman scored 27 goals in his first season in England with Boston United and Northampton Town in 2004-05.  He has now scored 40 goals for the Pars in 75 appearances and has set a personal target for the season ahead but not one is willing to make public:-

"It is just a personal thing so I keep it to myself. I have always set myself quite hard targets and hopefully if I can stay fit I can hit those targets.  As a centre forward you always look to get well into double figures and last season I got 17 even though I missed the last twelve games with an ankle injury.  Hopefully I can improve on that this year."

Andy dismissed suggestions that the pressure was firmly on him to come up with the goods:-

"We have a good blend.  If people look at 30 being getting to the top end of your career but the experienced boys we have year of that age are all quite fit.  It is a good mix for the team."

With international matches coming up in the autumn for Northern Ireland against Slovenia and Italy, Andy is happy to be hitting the net but feels that selection is out of his hands:-

"All I can do is play well for my club and score goals which is my job.  If anything comes from it then we will see what happens then."
