The Dunfermline Athletic under 20s fly out to Cyprus on Wednesday 9th January on board the 10.55 Easyjet flight from Edinburgh to Paphos. Although the temperatures in the Eastern Mediterranean on Tuesday were fairly similar to what they were in Fife, the squad are heading towards better weather with temperatures there forecast to be in the high teens from the weekend onwards while Scotland is expecting winter to return with a bite.

Before heading off coach John Potter told the website:-

"The squad will train twice a day, we have slots from 10.30 until 12 and from 5.00 until 6.30.. There are two games currently arranged against Red Star Belgrade on 11th and CSKA Moscow on 16th (subject to change).

"All the training has been organised before we go, we know training times and we will also be visited by representatives of the funders. The boys have the use of the pool and the gym in between as well. Boys have been given all their kit and we are good to go.

"I have not trained on grass with them for six weeks. Astroturf can be good at times but it is nice to be back on grass. We can work on one or two specific things when we have the place to ourselves and nobody is rushing you. We want to work on formations too. Training in good weather and on decent pitches can only be a benefit.

"We are going to watch a couple of games as well as part of the trip and we will watch other teams train which could be beneficial to the coaches too."

The training trip is for two weeks and the hotel has great facilities to keep the boys busy when they are not training, there will be a little sightseeing and a couple of restaurant visits.  The squad in Cyprus

The Under 20 match against Falkirk scheduled for Tuesday 22nd January has been postponed and will be re-arranged. The Centenary Club are organising a brunch in aid of DAFC Youth Development in the Kingdom Suite on Sunday 24th February. Guests will be able to watch the SFA Youth Cup match at East End Park that Sunday when the opposition will be Inverness Caley Thistle.

Dunfermline Athletic secured funding to take a party of youth players and coaching staff to a two week winter training camp in Cyprus through the European Communities Leonardo Da Vinci Programme..

The Leonardo da Vinci Programme funds practical projects in the field of vocational education and training. Initiatives range from those giving individuals work-related training abroad to large-scale co-operation efforts.

Part of the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme, this programme funds many different types of activities of varying scales. These include 'mobility' initiatives enabling people to train in another country, co-operation projects to transfer or develop innovative practices, and networks focusing on topical themes in the sector.

The people able to benefit from the programme range from trainees in initial vocational training, to people who have already graduated, as well as VET professionals and anyone from organisations active in this field.

Leonardo da Vinci enables organisations in the vocational education sector to work with partners from across Europe, exchange best practices, and increase their staff's expertise. It should make vocational education more attractive to young people and, by helping people to gain new skills, knowledge and qualifications, the programme also boosts the overall competitiveness of the European labour market.

Innovation projects are key to the programme. They aim to improve the quality of training systems by developing and transferring innovative policies, courses, teaching methods, materials and procedures.
