Alex Burke Post Clyde

Sunday, 22nd Mar 2009

"After the high of going through to the semi final and then coming here and scoring a few goals as we put on a good performance it has been a good few days.

What a week it has been for Alex Burke; he sank the third penalty in the penalty shoot out against Aberdeen on Wednesday then went to Broadwood on Saturday and scored the third goal in the 4-1 win over Clyde:-

"After the high of going through to the semi final and then coming here and scoring a few goals as we put on a good performance it has been a good few days.

"We came out of the traps well. Even in the last couple of games when we got beat I thought we passed it really well. The Manager has just been encouraging us to do more of the same and it will come. He said to 'keep believing' and he was right because today I thought we passed it well and Calum Woods move leading up to his goal was fantastic. It is good to get a few goals out of the good play and more importantly a win."

A smile came over the 31 year old's face as it was pointed out that none of the four Pars goals was scored by the strikers.

"That is always good that we are sharing it about with the midfield and Calum Woods, a defender, scoring. It is good for confidence and good to take the pressure off the strikers if we can get goals from other areas."

Alex scored in the opening game of this season in the 3-0 win over Stirling Albion in the Alba Challenge Cup but Saturday's strike at Broadwood was the first in the league this season:-

"I am delighted, it has been a long time coming; I have hit a few good strikes this season and just missed, so it was good to get a goal from one I did not hit too well. I just took my chance and hit it and it went through the defender's leg. He just came to block me and I think it fooled the keeper but I don't care.

"We created lots of chances, scored four - it could have been more - and are delighted with it. The good thing is that we got the three points because before we have played well, created chances in games but not got the right result. It was most important that we got the result but good that we put in a good performance as well."

The midfielder enjoyed his week and just wants that to continue:-

"Hopefully Wednesday night can be the springboard to go on a run. We got the result today and now we will just rest up and prepare for Tuesday night. If we can continue to play the way that we have been playing football and can get a result at Dingwall."

Alex was a cup winner with Kilmarnock in 1996/97, beating Falkirk 1-0 in the final, but getting back to Hampden with Dunfermline was not something he had considered before Wednesday night:-

"When the draw comes out, you get Clyde and we went through that. You just take each game as it comes. The Aberdeen games came and we felt we had a chance. The boys were confident enough and obviously with the 1-1 result in the first game everybody wrote us off thinking Aberdeen have done the hard part. In the dressing room we had a great belief and went up there and worked hard. We got the result to take us into the semi final and when that comes we will go into that with confidence thinking 'we can win this'.
