Dunfermline Athletic

A big thank you to everyone.

"The club gave me an opportunity to get back into full time football which I will be eternally thankful for.

Callum leaves for United but says massive thanks to Pars

Calum Morris has vowed to be a Dunfermline Athletic supporter for the rest of his life. The central defender signed a two year deal on Tuesday afternoon for Dundee United but is hoping to be able to be in the crowd at East End Park on Saturdays when United do not have a match. Speaking exclusively to this website big Cal spoke about the move:-

"I think there were a few clubs looking at me but Dundee United was my best move at this moment in time. Having spoken to Jackie McNamara I decided that it was a perfect place for me to go as the next step on my career."

The move promotes the 24 year old up two divisions and Callum feels that the time was right for another challenge.

"To be fair it was a really tough decision to leave Dunfermline but I couldn't really turn down the opportunity to go and play in the top division. This will be the highest level that I have ever played at; it will be a tough task and a challenge but it is one that I am looking forward to. I can't wait to get going."

United were denied European football as a consequence of losing to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final so there will be no early start for pre
season for Callum. Their preparations for the Premiership will start with tours to Dublin and Holland.

"Hopefully we will finish in Europe in the season coming up, that will be the goal. You would like to think that you could challenge Celtic but as the season goes on they will probably pull away like they did last season but you never know."

Callum made a total of 69 appearances for Dunfermline in which he scored three goals. After signing in August 2012 it turned out to be more of a turbulent period than he ever expected.

"It was a bit of a rollercoaster of a two years. It was brilliant and perfect for me. The club gave me an opportunity to get back into full time football which I will be eternally thankful for.

"The Manager, coaching staff, players and fans were brilliant after I arrived at the end of pre season. They had already played two league games when I signed. I slotted in straight away but my best memories will be how everyone pulled together when the club went into administration.

"The fans, Dunfermline folk and Dunfermline fans throughout the World came together as one and dragged the club through it and out the other side. The club is on the up again and I hope to see them lift the league trophy at the end of the season."

Callum enjoyed how he could walk about Dunfermline, drop in for a coffee at his favourite haunt and encounter no shortage of people who would recognise him and stop for a chat.

"They were really friendly and personable. They made me feel really, really welcome and part of Dunfermline itself, not just the football club. The fans were brilliant and I really enjoyed living about the place."

This is no surprise to anyone since the Geordie was always pleased to have general chit chat with people who weren't in awe of him just because he played football. Callum confessed "I had a great time in Dunfermline" before going on to praise the Manager, Neil McCann, John Potter and Craig Dargo.

"I'd just like to thank everyone for being so welcoming and making it feel like a second home almost for me. I had such a great time there and appreciate all their help and support."

There is no doubt that Dunfermline has provided the springboard in Callum's football career after he travelled up for a midweek match.

"When I left Newcastle United I was all over the place for a couple of years after that. I was in Spain and Portugal and never really found a team that was a good fit for me. When the opportunity came to go to Dunfermline I came up just for a game against Livingston in midweek. The manager liked what he saw and straight away gave me the opportunity to sign a contract. I flourished after that and it was absolutely brilliant, perfect for me at the time - ideal."

After failing to secure contracts at Hayes and Yeading and at Blyth Spartans, Callum had been considering knocking full time football on the head but the chance to join Dunfermline turned out to be one that he claims he will forever be indebted to the club for.

"A massive bit thank you to everyone" said Callum.

What Dundee United fans might not be ready for is some of the famous Morris hair styles.

"I am just trying to decide what the next one is going to be. I have quite a lot of hair at the minute to work on. I am going to get something new done
for the new season but it won't be tangerine, it is not in my locker to change the colour yet. It will stay natural but don't know in what style."

Finally Callum has chosen to support Chile in the World Cup and even after
their display against Spain, Callum feels that Argentina will be the country to put your money on.
