Jason Talbot was the first player signed by Dunfermline in the Allan Johnston era. He had made 200 appearances for Livingston after joining them in 2008 from Port Vale and featured 40 times for Dunfermline in his first season with them.
During his time at Livi Jason won the Third Division and Second Division titles in successive years. Having been at Everton as a youth, he started his senior career in 2003 with Bolton Wanderers and was loaned out to Derby County and Mansfield before joining the latter in 2005. The following year year he signed for Port Vale and made 47 appearances for the League One club before coming north in July 2008.
