When John Potter found himself on the road to Dundee for this SPFL Development League match he was accompanied by a good few of the first team squad who were in need of a game. Jordan Orru was suspended but Lewis Martin was in central defence, Ryan Thomson and Andy Stirling in midfield, and upfront Gozie Ugwu partnered Allan Smith.

Eddie Johnston the Dundee coach also put out a side on the strong side. Club captain Kevin Thomson, Iain Davidson, Kevin McBride, Philip Roberts and Willie Dyer bolstered his side.

The visitors kicked off on a fresh evening at Dens Park and looked good from the start. Stirling hammered a seventh minute shot wide left and five minutes later Sorel Chemin dispatched an early effort that from 25 yards out was held by keeper Kyle Gourlay.

Dundee's first chance came in 17th minute when Philip Roberts squeezed in a cross from the left side of the box only for Max Avoilo to miss a good opportunity ony eight yards out. Back at the other end three minutes later Gozie Ugwu held the ball up on the edge of the box but under pressure from three opponents lost possession to Kevin Thomson. He in turn was robbed by Smith and he flashed his shot across goal and out beyond the left goalpost.

There was 24 minutes on the clock when Thomson made a powerful run to pick out Chemin on the right. He beat his man and from just inside the box released a left footed effort that crashed into the sidenetting. Three minutes later the Pars were let off the hook when a Williamson miscue travelled to Roberts but the right back recovered to snuff out the striker and allow Cammy Gill to clear.

On the half hour Chemin dropped over a fine cross from the right but Smith headed over. Three minutes later the Borderer was presented with an even better chance this time with Ugwu cutting back from the right but the ball was blasted over from close in.

Dundee weren't exactly out of things but the League One club were giving their Premier League opponents a good testing. The Pars created another chance for Dundee when O'Kane's clearance went straight to Roberts but Martin did well to block.

Six minutes from the break Roberts got in behind on the left side but O'Kane and Martin prevented Calvin Colquhoun accepting the easy chance in front of goal. Chemin blasted the final chance of the half high over the bar but it was a half where Dunfermline did well and as will sound familiar, the chances were not taken.

When the second half got going Chemin was on the left and earned an early corner when his cross cannoned behind off Andrew Black. Scott Mercer delivered an inswinger and the ball just escaped a touch from Smith at the back post.

On the right Stirling combined nicely with Williamson but the right backs' 49th minute cross slipped behind. Next minute a run for Smith created havoc in the Dee defence and Stirling, Smith and Ugwu all lost out as their efforts were all blocked. The opening goal then duly arrived and it put the Pars into a well deserved lead.

A corner from the right was met with a powerful on target header from O'Kane and when the keeper stopped the shot SMITH turned the ball in from three yards. 0-1

SMITH then doubled his tally with a fine shot that ripped in from 20 yards into the top right. 0-2. Things were bad for the home side but got even worse on the hour.

Chemin cut back from the byeline on the left and as Ugwu went to slide the ball in, Iain Davidson took him out and referee Mike Roncone pointed to the spot. The Dundee player was yellow carded but after protesting too much a second followed and he was sent off. After some time waiting SMITH then placed the ball to the keeper's left. 0-3

Dunfermline continued to peg the ten men back. Stirling cut back a good ball from the right that no one could convert then after James Thomas replaced the hattrick hero Allan Smith, the sub harried and made the home defence uncomfortable.

Gavin McMillan replaced Ugwu in 78 minutes but it was the another sub, James THOMAS who was to score next. Chemin crossed from the left and the Pars player headed home from close in. 0-4.

Three minutes later in 89 minutes Declan O'KANE met a Mercer corner from the right and he powered his header in at the near post to complete a second half rout. 0-5
